The Humanities Research Network (HRN): 57

HRN is a set of group workspaces for projects sponsored by the Stanford Humanities Center. These are unstructured workspaces that allow you, as a member of a sponsored project team, to add, edit, and organize the content for your workspace. Each workspace includes a wiki, a blog, a calendar, and a mail archive. The wiki pages have a versioning feature that allows you to track changes as the page is modified. Additional features that are aides to organizing content are filtered search and tagging.

Workspace Features

  1. WIKI: What is a wiki? A wiki is server software that allows individuals to edit and create web pages on the fly.
  2. BLOG: The group blog provides another means for communication that is archived chronological order like a discussion forum.
  3. CALENDAR: Use the group calendar to plan meetings or notify others in your group about relevant activities. Upcoming events will be displayed on the front page of your group workspace.
  4. MAIL LIST AND ARCHIVE: Your group has its own email address, mailing list and archive of group email. From your own email client, write to [group short name]@humanitiesnetwork.org. That will deliver the message to each member of you group and a copy will appear under the "mail" tab in your workspace.

Additional Tools for Network Projects

  1. INSTANT MESSAGING: Encrypted chat tools allow you to communicate in real time with other members of your group.
  2. FILE SHARING: A central repository for group files.
